Raising a Glass to Four Amazing Decades at Crowther & Shaw
It’s hard to believe that, back in 1985, our Managing Director started his working life at Crowther & Shaw as an apprentice. Fast forward some four decades (yes, really!) and the entire team here at our Huddersfield base will raise a glass to Mark Gledhill and his long-standing service.
The first week in November 2025 will mark 40 years since Mark joined Crowther & Shaw and we plan to let everyone’s favourite boss enjoy a day to remember. Just one day, though, Mark – then back to it on Tuesday, you understand!
‘An easy-going, funny and relaxed boss’
Joking aside, Mark, who’s described by his employees as ‘easy-going, funny and relaxed’, brings ‘good banter’ to the working day while still ensuring everyone knuckles down and provides a great service to our customers.
During his time at Crowther & Shaw, Mark’s worked as an engineer and service manager, before becoming the Director – and now Managing Director. Well-respected by the team, Mark puts the business and its staff before himself and genuinely cares about both his team and their families.
Outside of work, he’s a huge Huddersfield Town fan and proudly sponsors matches (and players) through Crowther & Shaw. His proudest moment as both a company owner and Town fan? Sponsoring the team when they took on Liverpool FC in the Premier League.
New Developments in Store
With 40 years of service behind him, Mark’s not ready to put the brakes on quite yet, though, with plenty of developments no doubt in the pipeline for the company.
Just recently, in fact, he made the exciting decision to bring on board MAP Mechanical – a renowned local mechanical and engineering firm, which covers commercial plumbing and heating services.
The MAP team, who now work from our own premises, will strengthen Crowther & Shaw’s service and installation offering and ensure we can continue to provide great outcomes for our customers.
‘He’s the best boss I’ve ever had’ – says boss’s son!
So, what kind of boss is Mark? His son, company director, Elliot Gledhill, jokes: “He’s the best boss I’ve ever had”, before adding: “he’s the only boss I’ve had!”
Our service coordinator, Gill, adds: “Mark is a great boss, and I have learned a lot from him – 40 years in, he must be doing something right!”
What’s next for Mark and the Crowther & Shaw team? Watch this space. In fact, keep an eye here on our blog to discover regular glimpses behind the scenes at our town centre premises.
Until next time…
